When decay is too extensive for a filling, we may recommend a stainless steel crown to fully protect and restore the tooth. These crowns are especially helpful for molars and are designed to last as long as possible until the baby tooth naturally falls out.

A pulpotomy is a common and effective procedure used to treat baby teeth that have been affected by deep decay or trauma. It involves removing the infected or damaged portion of the pulp—the soft tissue inside the tooth—while preserving the healthy portion. This treatment helps relieve pain, stop the spread of infection, and maintain the tooth’s structure and function. By saving the tooth, a pulpotomy supports normal chewing, speech development, and space maintenance until the tooth naturally falls out as part of your child’s growth.

While we always aim to preserve natural teeth, sometimes extractions become necessary for your child's overall oral health. Common situations include severe decay when a tooth is so extensively damaged that fillings or crowns cannot restore it, infection risk where there's potential for bacteria to spread to other parts of the mouth or body, orthodontic reasons to make space for other teeth as part of a treatment plan, impacted teeth that are stuck and cannot break through the gum due to insufficient room, or damage from trauma when a tooth is fractured beyond repair due to an injury.
